The Margaret River Bowling Club: established in 1962

Our club is located at the Gloucester Park Sporting Complex in the heart of Margaret River.

Margaret River :

Margaret River is a 3 hour drive south of Perth in the heartland of the Western Australian wine and surfing region.

Originally known for hardwood timber and agricultural production it wasn’t until the 1970’s that grape growing, wine production, surfing and tourism started to help transform Margaret River into the town it is now.

With world renowned food and wine festivals, international surfing competitions and tourism activities including our famous caves, mountain biking and whale watching, the Margaret River region is a place all Western Australians will visit at least once and then want to return time after time.

Our Club :

Affiliated as a bowling club in 1962 with President Mr B Boulter (hotel manager), Vice President Mr P O’Farrell (labourer) and Secretary/Treasurer Mr R Duncan (storekeeper) in charge, the Margaret River Bowling Club proudly opened with a seven rink couch-grass green planted three years previously and a membership of twenty one men and twenty ladies.

In 2024 it was awarded the Bowls WA Small Country Club of the year award.

The Margaret River Bowling Club is a member of the Leeuwin Bowling League, which includes clubs in Augusta, Cowaramup, Dunsborugh, Margaret River and Nannup.  Our club is like many country clubs with recent fluctuations in membership. In 2024 we have 68 full playing members and more who are social bowling members.

Now boasting a club house available for function hire and two synthetic greens, the club not only offers regular competition for club members but also rounds of corporate bowls with one before Christmas and Jack Attack in the New Year.

Our two new synthetic greens are running beautifully. They can be used all year round. Number one green has floodlighting for night bowls and our second green will have lighting soon.

We are known for a welcoming, friendly atmosphere for members and guests. Come and enjoy a drink and/or a game of bowls.

If you wish to play competitively, we have Pennant teams that cater for all levels of ability. The Pennant season runs from October to March each year, with any gender competitions playing on Saturday afternoons and Tuesday mornings.

The club is always interested to hear from you if you’d like to sign up for either Pennants or social bowls.

There is mixed drawn social bowls which is played each Friday all year round, commencing at 1.30 p.m.  It’s a great way to learn the game and enjoy meeting and socializing with fellow bowlers.

Corporate Bowls are played every Wednesday through the Summer months at 5:30pm. This is fun, social evening with teams made up from local businesses, and is another great way to enjoy the game of bowls with your friends and colleagues.

We welcome members, new members and visitors alike. Contact the club on 08 9757 3666 for any enquiries.
